Here is a clarification to my original?.
For instance when a user is registering for our site and they type in 94111 as a zip code it will look up the data from this web page and return back San Francisco, CA.
It will then populate the fields appropriately for them.
Address verification is nice as well but tends to be much more costly.
Although I wouldnt shy away from it as a web service, much like the USPS offers.
Now here is an example of a London postal code 4-6 Glasshouse Street London W1B 5DQ It would be ideal to enable our user to deposit bonus sign up which country they are from and then enter their postal code and it would return back the appropriate city.
Obviously we will be doing the backend programming but we need a complete list of postal codes that correspond with cities, like zipcodedownload.
Also if we could get an entire list of countries throughout the world that would be great.
Thanks and hopefully this helps clarify the info more.
Also Australia would be nice to have as well : Request for Answer Clarification by abemccallum-ga on 14 Oct 2006 12:54 PDT Also, I noticed that addressdoctor and others want to charge on a perclick basis.
That would be very cost prohibitive, we would like to license the software on an annual or monthly basis, regardless of clicks to our webform, where we can get the updates dumped into our DB Thanks!
Clarification of Answer by on 15 Oct 2006 09:00 PDT Hi abemccallum, Thank you for your clarification.
I'm sorry, but I don't believe that you are going to find exactly what you want from one source without paying a premium.
Remember, ZipCodeDownload is only giving you two English speaking, North American countries.
Adding many countries including non-English to a database is much more costly the companies often have to purchase licenses from many different sources to use the postal code data.
The GISDataDepot gets numerous requests from people looking for resources and pointers to help them find free postal code GIS datasets.
Unfortunately, free postal data in a useable format is very tough to come by.
We've put together this collection of resources to help you out.
Commercial data is available, however, don't expect to get it for free - lots of work has gone into developing this data and keeping it up to date.
